A good diet is important for your overall health and wellbeing, but the sad truth is that when you have a busy life, trying to keep yourself on the right track when it comes to your diet is not always easy. It’s often much easier to grab something that is convenient, but convenience doesn’t usually equal healthy. While preparing a healthy meal from scratch with fresh ingredients is always the best option, it’s not viable for some people. If you want to keep your diet as healthy as possible without spending hours preparing food every day, then try these healthy eating hacks.

1. Follow a Meal Plan

If you find that a lot of your time is actually taken up by figuring out what to eat and getting it, then following a meal plan can make things easier for you. You can come up with your own or use this simple paleo meal plan so that you know what food you need to get in and what you are going to be making on any given day. When you plan your meals for the week, this can help you save time by planning ahead and preparing in advance.

2. Batch Cook

Batch cooking your meals can not only help you save time, but it will also give you the chance to get the most from your ingredients. Fresh ingredients sadly do not always last very long if you don’t eat them straight away. If you only have enough time to go grocery shopping once per week then you might find that some of your fresh ingredients aren’t that fresh any more towards the end of the week. Batch cooking helps you avoid this by having your meals prepared in advanced. Set a few hours aside on a weekend or a day that is most convenient for you. Most batch cooked meals will keep well for a few days in the fridge or weeks in the freezer, and all you need to do is warm them up to eat.

3. Freeze Your Veg

Fresh vegetables are great for our health but sometimes they are just not convenient. If you often find that you are throwing away and wasting a lot of fresh food because you’re not getting through it fast enough, then you can put it in the freezer so that it lasts longer. One way to do this and make your life easier at the same time is to chop and prep your fresh vegetables before popping them in Ziploc bags to freeze. This way, when it’s time to use them for a meal, they’re chopped up and ready to add.

4. Drink More Water

Drinking more water is one of the easiest and most effective things that you can do for your health, no matter how busy you are. If you want to lead a healthier lifestyle but don’t have a lot of time, then invest in a big water bottle that you can use all day long. Even better – get a 2l bottle so that all you need to do is fill it up in the morning, and you can sip on it throughout the day to get your recommended allowance without worrying about topping it up.

5. Prepare Breakfast the Night Before

If your days are busy but you do have a bit of time to yourself in the evenings, then use this time wisely by preparing your breakfast for the next morning. You might even want to put together a salad or lettuce wrap for your lunch, too. This way you don’t have to worry about finding the time to prepare something healthy the next day when you are busy, and you will be less likely to grab something processed.

Even with a busy lifestyle there are plenty of hacks and tricks you can use to boost your diet.
