What is CBDA Used For

Among other things, CBDA is a cannabinoid that interacts with the endocannabinoid system. This system is involved in regulating pain, nausea, and anxiety. It also provides several benefits in cancer treatment.

Anti-Nausea Drugs

Currently, nausea is one of the most distressing symptoms cancer patients face while undergoing chemotherapy. Unfortunately, there are currently no medications that are proven to treat nausea effectively. In addition, some patients may find that nausea and vomiting are treatment-resistant. Cannabinoids are believed to have therapeutic potential to reduce chemotherapy-induced nausea.

Dronabinol, one of the cannabinoids in the cannabinoid class of medications, affects the area of the brain that controls nausea. Other cannabinoids, including cannabidiol acid (CBDA), have shown promising anti-nausea activity.

The anti-nausea activity of CBDA is believed to be mediated through action at the 5-HT1A receptor. In rats, CBDA increased the activation of the 5-HT1A receptor and improved the latency of emesis onset. However, it did not change the expression of conditioned fear.

The anti-inflammatory activity of CBDA was also studied. In vitro, CBDA had an anti-inflammatory effect when administered 60 minutes before carrageenan.

Pain Relief

Several studies have demonstrated that CBDA, a cannabinoid precursor, can reduce pain in some people. It can also help with epilepsy and sleep. It also is an antiemetic, meaning it can suppress vomiting.

One of the more interesting is that CBDA may be more effective at reducing pain than conventional nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), commonly used in everyday pain management. Although it has been demonstrated that CBDA may help with pain, the question is, are the resulting side effects worth the pain?

While it is still early days, research is beginning to reveal the potential of CBDA in treating inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. In the meantime, chronic pain patients can resume their daily activities with minimal disruption.

The best part of CBDA is that it doesn’t have any adverse side effects associated with THC, making it a safer option for the average cannabis consumer.

Cancer Treatment

Despite the many studies on the subject, no one knows whether CBDA effectively combats cancer. First, most studies are done on animals or isolated cells. This is because the actual effectiveness of THCa and CBDa still needs to be discovered.

CBDA has been studied as a possible cure for nausea. In a study, CBDA decreased cancer cell migration while increasing prostaglandin production. Although this study did not prove that CBDA is a panacea for chemotherapy-induced sickness, it may be a valuable tool in the battle against breast cancer.

It was also proven that CBDA is a more efficient anti-inflammatory than ibuprofen. In addition, a study performed on human breast cancer cells in vitro showed that CBDA had an anti-tumoral effect on these cells.

One of the more exciting aspects of CBDA is its interaction with the endocannabinoid system. This system contains two major components: the CB1 and CB2 receptors. CBDA has an affinity for the CB1 and CB2 receptors and enhances the latter’s function.

Serotonin Receptors

Unlike other cannabinoids, CBDA is not psychoactive. Instead, it interacts with the endocannabinoid system and acts on 5-HT serotonin receptors, a vital element of the human psyche. These receptors play an essential role in regulating mood and anxiety. CBDA can also be used to treat nausea and pain.

CBDA is similar to commonly used nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen, work by inhibiting Cox-1 and Cox-2 enzymes. Cox-1 is involved in the lining of the stomach, and Cox-2 is involved in the lining of the intestinal tract. Both enzymes are involved in the inflammatory response and are associated with many diseases.

CBDA has anti-inflammatory properties similar to NSAIDs but has a higher bioavailability and can be metabolized faster. It also has a greater affinity for 5-HT serotonin receptors.

Interacts With the Endocannabinoid System

The endocannabinoid system is a complex cell signaling system that regulates various physiological processes in the body. It influences several aspects of health and wellness, including memory, appetite, stress, and metabolism. Even though researchers have only begun to understand the system, its functions are believed to be vital to our physical well-being.

The primary function of endocannabinoids is to regulate homeostasis. Homeostasis is a natural balance within the body that prevents imbalances that could harm the health of the body. However, if the balance becomes too strong, it can lead to inflammation, chronic pain, and auto-immunity.
