Are you the type that routinely reaches for a cup of coffee throughout the day? Are you consistently underwhelmed by your efforts and would prefer to head to your favorite coffee shop instead? If so, a little help is needed because there’s no reason why you can’t be making coffee-shop quality coffee in the comfort of your home. Here are some tips that will help you improve your coffee game and start making a better, more flavorful and satisfying cup of coffee at home.

Change Your Brew Method

The first step is to look at how you are brewing your coffee. If you use instant coffee, that’s likely your problem right there. Sure, instant coffee is quick and convenient, but it’s not exactly going to win awards for the most flavorful option. Even the single-serve brew options like the Keurig machine will offer a better-tasting coffee.

Ideally, you want to choose a drip-style machine. Keep in mind that many models have timers on them so you can make sure you wake up to a freshly brewed pot of coffee each day. Part of what makes the drip-style machine so much better is that you can choose high-quality coffee grinds.

Look for Fresh, Whole Coffee Beans

This brings us to the coffee beans you’re using, which may also need improving. Experts always recommend you purchase whole beans rather than grounds, as the coffee will start to lose its flavor once it is ground.

When you purchase the whole beans, you can grind them at home as needed. If you don’t have time to grind the beans in the morning, you can always grind them the night before as they can be stored for up to 48 hours without risking the flavor quality. This one step alone, buying whole beans, could be all it takes to transform your coffee.

Change Up the Roast That You’re Drinking

Part of the issue may also be the roast you’re buying – maybe it’s time for a change! While many tend to reach for a light roast coffee, that may not be delivering on depth and intensity for you. Try going up a level and getting a medium roast coffee. You can also try dark roast, but this will be very intense and isn’t to everyone’s liking. No matter which roast you choose, there shouldn’t be any bitterness to it. If there is, change the brand of coffee bean.

Step Out of Your Comfort Zone – Try an Exotic Coffee

If you’ve tried all these steps and you’re still not impressed with the results, it may be time to step out of your comfort zone and try something a little more exotic. Kopi Luwak is as fresh as it gets and is a specialty coffee that is as unique as it is flavorful. People describe this coffee as having a very smooth and balanced taste, so you won’t have to worry about that bitter aftertaste that lower end coffees tend to have.

Never heard of Kopi Luwak coffee? You’re not alone, as this one isn’t exactly mainstream. It’s often referred to as the most expensive coffee in the world thanks to how it is produced. Coffee cherries are eaten by civet cats, which then break down the protein in the coffee bean as it passes through their digestive system. Those beans are then collected and dried out to create something unique and exotic.

All of these tips are designed to help you instantly improve your coffee game. Don’t forget to also consider add-ins and extras such as flavored syrups, flavored cream, toppings and so forth. That will truly elevate it to high-end coffee shop quality.
