It is not surprising that you are wondering how to make a rag doll to sell, since this is a business that, in addition to being a therapeutic activity, has worked very well and brought benefits to those who have decided to sell this type of product. Like my mother, who is a visual artist, she always spoke to me “trends are a cycle, everything that is out of date [perhaps with the exception of electronic devices, I would add] always comes back to fashion”. This is the case with cloth dolls.

A few decades ago, perhaps in the childhood time of our mothers or grandparents, cloth dolls were all the rage and children adored and even collected them – they were certainly on the top-selling craft list.

Later, with the era of Barbie and Susie, plastic dolls won the market and cloth dolls stopped being so sought after.

However, a few years ago, cloth dolls came back with everything and are making the greatest success, both with children, and with adults who like to have them as decoration objects for rooms, events or for utilities at home like bag or diaper straps, for example. We have all seen how wholesale rose bears have become one of the most sought after wholesale items on the market.

That is why today we decided to bring you an article that teaches step by step on how you can make your own fabric dolls, in your own way, so that you too can enter that market that has given so much again.

Gather the necessary materials, which are

  • Leather fabric (it can be salmon, brown, white, black or whatever color you want for your wrist) – usually felt or popeline type fabric is used;
  • Fabric for the little body (it can be the same fabrics that I have mentioned above);
  • Wool mixed in color;
  • Filler (foam, cotton, scraps or styrofoam);
  • Renda or English embroidery to put on the wrist’s sleeve;
  • Lacos and rococos or fuxic;
  • Pens for fabrics;
  • Colored lines.

How to make the doll

The first step in making your doll is choosing the mold. You need to decide what type, format and size of doll you want to make in order to use the right mold for it.

On the Internet you can easily find different molds.

After choosing the model and then the mold of your fabric doll, you must download the file and print this mold, then cut it out.

Using the mold as a base, you should mark the different parts of the body, head, body, arms and legs on the fabric that will be made of the body.

Remember to mark the opening and the place of the arms and to take advantage of the corpel mold to cut the fabric of the clothing as well.

With the contours of the pieces made, it is time to cut them out – always remembering to leave a margin of 1.5 cm, because when filling the fabric, it will end up sticking a bit;

The next step is to sew the fabric around the outline – be sure to leave the opening in order to do the padding;

After sewing, you must turn the fabric inside out, as that part of the seam should be facing inwards. Once this is done, you can start filling the doll;

Consequently, it is necessary to place the fabric against the seam and fill the doll’s body with the foam (or another padding of your choice);

After filling the doll, you must sew all parts of the body to the doll, as well as the fill openings;

To make the doll’s hair, there are several options you can make out of felt or another fabric, or even using wool threads to give the impression of hair threads (and you can still make hairstyles with it!).

Now it is time to glue the hair that you chose on the doll’s head.

It is important, at that time, to pay attention to the purpose of the doll if it is for decoration or utilities (such as diapers or bag strip) you can use the lips and the bag, buttons for the eyes, for example.

The doll business tends to continue to grow every year. If you have an interest in this business but don’t have the time and skills to make your dolls, buying wholesale is an attractive option. You can buy from Dhgate wholesale.
