Looking to switch things up in your home at the start of 2023? The bedroom may be the perfect place to start. On average, we redecorate our bedrooms every 29 months, so if yours looks the same as it did three years ago then it may be time to inject some new life into it.

Redecorating a bedroom is no small task, however, as you’ll have to first decide on the theme for your new bedroom. Whilst there are many to choose from, we believe that a vintage look is a safe bet for most people. Plus, it’s quite easy to implement too! There are many benefits to vintage or retro décor too such as eco-friendliness and an evergreen design that you’re sure to enjoy for years to come.

If a vintage design for your bedroom sounds perfect for you then we’re here to help you get it right. In this article, we’ll explore what vintage décor is and what design elements you should use to ensure your bedroom looks as good as possible.

What is modern-day vintage?

This is all about combining retro décor with contemporary elements to create a beautiful aesthetic that pays homage to the past but fits in with modern-day living too. A great way to do that is to use retro textiles that blend perfectly with modern-day amenities like a television.

When going vintage, it’s also critical that you understand the eras that you’re incorporating into your bedroom. Some popular eras include the 70s, 80s and 90s and whilst there are plenty of fun elements from these eras, it’s usually best to just stick to one instead of combining them. This will give your room a clear theme that guests are sure to love.

What should be in your vintage bedroom?

We know you’ll fall in love with your vintage bedroom when it’s complete and here’s everything you’ll need to get it to that stage:

Ornate wallpapers and fabrics

Walls cover a huge space in your bedroom which is why they must be fully utilised for a vintage look. Use elaborate designs and combine them with colourful fabrics for your curtains and bedsheets to pull it all together.

Over-the-bed wardrobe

Over-the-bed wardrobes have been popular for decades which makes them perfect for a vintage-looking bedroom. Plus, they’re great for saving space, so you can include more vintage furniture in your room too.

Traditional bed

The bed is the centrepiece of any bedroom which is why it must have a vintage look to tie the whole room together. We recommend choosing a cast iron frame and brass detailing. These beds can often be picked up cheap second-hand too, so they fit most budgets as well!
