5 Ways to Make Your Smile Even More Fabulous
While we might think that there is little we can do about it, our smile is actually one of our most important features and it’s well worth putting the effort in to make it look as good as possible. It is among the first things people notice about us, either in person or in photographs, and it is something you use every single day for your entire life.
Achieving your brightest, healthiest smile is not as quick as changing your outfit or hair. The steps, however, are simple, and by being consistent you will be rewarded with an asset that will stay with you for life.
1. Visit the dentist regularly
Let’s get the essentials out of the way first. Trying to create a fabulous smile on a foundation of cavities and decay is simply fighting a losing battle. The condition of your teeth can deteriorate faster than you can improve them, so identifying problems early and stopping them in their tracks is essential.
2. Brush and floss
While there are some cosmetic quick fixes when it comes to teeth, unless you have the time and money to keep repeating them, you’re going to need to be consistent with the basics. Make sure you’re in the habit of brushing twice a day and flossing before proceeding with anything else.
3. Consider orthodontics
When we think about improving our smile, we usually wonder how to get the perfect pearly white colour. However, whiteness is only one element which goes into a great smile and it is one that is fairly easy to change.
Orthodontics permanently corrects the parts which are harder to change, such as gaps in the teeth, misalignment, or bite issues such as crossbite. If this conjures up images of teenagers in braces, you should know that there are many other options today. Websites such as BeSeen contain information about the latest and least visible treatments.
4. Teeth whitening
There are a range of at-home or in-office options available today. Fast and dramatic results will need to be done by professionals using custom trays or lasers. At-home whitening with gel pens, strips or trays takes more time but can be cheaper and more convenient. If your teeth are already in good condition, then a whitening toothpaste can help maintain them.
5. Prevent stains
If you want your whitening job to be effective and to last, you need to prevent staining. This means cutting down on a few things. As if there were not already enough reasons to quit smoking, cigarette smoke stains your teeth. Coffee, tea and red wine do too, unfortunately. You don’t have to quit them completely, but cutting down will help, as will drinking water or rinsing regularly because this washes the liquids off of your teeth.
These are the most important things you can do to enhance your natural smile. There are other cosmetic treatments available, such as veneers, bonding and implants, but these all involve replacing or covering your real teeth. In the absence of any serious problems, these good habits and perhaps occasional whitening are all that’s needed to achieve that movie star smile.
