Live A Better Lifestyle

These days staying in top shape and leading a healthy lifestyle has become quite the norm! But when it comes to actually making those habits a part of your everyday life, it could be a tad overwhelming.

However, there is no need for you to revamp your entire regime so as to live a healthy life. Sometimes, just a few small tweaks here and there are more than enough for you to get a good night’s sleep and lead a healthier lifestyle.

Besides, the struggle is not about knowing what’s healthy and what isn’t. It is more about being consistent and trying to be on track, especially when life becomes hectic.

If you’ve some wisdom goals in mind but are finding it difficult to follow, then here we’ve mentioned 5 small tweaks that will help you achieve all your goals.

1. Be completely honest with yourself

People often try following a strict exercise or diet plan, which sounds excellent on paper or for others but doesn’t really help them in any manner. Either it is too taxing or restrictive, or includes activities that they aren’t comfortable doing.

If you’ve been trying to do something similar, then it’s better to stop it right there. Instead try getting real with yourself and understand what you truly feel is good for your body. Perhaps, you can start your own food journal or figure out the kind of meal that you’re often attracted to.

Pay attention to your appetite and energy ebbs and flows. Also, try not to be judgemental even though it’s not in line with the others around you. By doing so, you will be able to figure out what your body really needs to stay in top shape!

2. Embrace the regime that you’ve set for yourself

Everytime you hear the word “regime”, your mind instantly starts thinking of 4 am alarms, early morning workout sessions, and drinking green smoothies. But, it does not necessarily have to be like that.

You can have a flexible yet consistent regime filled with small habits that ensures you’re on track, making it easier to follow those healthy habits.

Besides, when it comes to making lifestyle changes, it is better to start small and later reassess if you need more. For example, you can start by going on morning runs rather than hitting the gym and drink lemon water the moment you’re home. And no matter where you are, don’t forget to set aside some journaling time.

3. Set some time for self-care

Taking out some time for yourself is one of the most important tools when it comes to leading a healthier lifestyle.

This is all the more essential if you’ve got a calendar wherein other people can schedule some time with you. It might seem like you are being selfish (which you technically are!), but all that it tells you is even your health is a priority as those other essential things in life.

Yet again, you do not have to take out an hour or so. Even 10 minutes a day is enough to make you feel all the difference.

4. Have a time limit for every work

One thing that each one of us needs to stop doing right away, is glamorizing our busy schedule. So, set a time limit to everything you do and see how that lets you work on the things that you truly want to and has an impact on your bigger picture.

By setting boundaries you are able to make the right decisions with regards to the food you consume, particularly when you want to focus on times you feel naturally hungry.

Also, it is completely alright to say ‘no’ to tasks that aren’t important to you and only ends up eating most of your time and energy.

5. Prepare a game plan for your loneliness

It is okay to feel lonely! But sometimes it could be really frustrating and you might end up making use of coping mechanisms that are unhealthy. To avoid this, prepare a list and involve all those things that you end up doing whenever you feel lonely.

Also, be real with yourself and acknowledge all your weak points. Be it binge-watching series on Netflix or mindlessly munching on your favorite food – no matter what your coping mechanism is – do not get back to them.

Everyone feels lonely at some point or the other. But it is essential for you to keep your mind busy at all times so that you stay on track. The only thing you need to remember is the list must include things that you love doing and not something that you “have” to do.

There we have it – our 5 game changers that can really help you remain fit and maintain a healthier lifestyle!

Did you find this useful? Do not hesitate to share.

Ex-combatants often struggle with different mental challenges that are connected to their war experiences. Read about the use of video games for veterans and how they can contribute to veterans’ readjustment to civilian life after a deployment

Veteran mental health statistics show that every other veteran needs mental health treatment. War and violence have a profound effect on them so that they are unable to recover mentally from atrocious pictures of battles preying on their minds. Returning home after the war and seeing the old places are not enough for them to renew their mental and health wellness. Most veterans suffer from PTSD that keeps them involved with their past negative experiences and hinders their adaptation in society.

Veteran mental health recovery journey takes long and requires a tremendous effort to cope with this kind of mental illness. One of the leading remedies against post-war trauma is video game play that urges former soldiers to re-develop their old affection for life.

Video games help to deal with stress issues in many ways.

Community building

After coming home, most ex-soldiers feel isolated because they cannot find support and develop a feeling of belonging to society that fails to understand their concerns and fears. Operation Supply Drop is currently the leading military community that assists veterans in overcoming their mental health difficulties. They use all sorts of video games for mental health recovery that focuses on bringing all vets together and encouraging them to build new interesting social connections. OSD creates a pleasant and friendly environment in which the ex-military have an amazing opportunity to start a new chapter filled with positive emotions and good experiences.

Better than meditation

Video gaming has proved effective in cultivating mindfulness and stopping stress and anxiety. Though yoga is often called the first technique to relieve stress and diminish the effects of trauma, video games appear to be an even stronger protective measure against post-war depression. Compared to yoga, game play has far greater potential when talking about the impact it makes on veterans. Video games give veterans an excellent way to take their minds off the war. They steal their sense of reality and thereby promote their mental healing.

Playing games acts as a huge booster to develop better communication skills and build solid relationships with like-minded people. Veterans are happy with playing video games because they do it together in the OSD community where they can smile, laugh, and joke around. Besides a bunch of shared video games, other OSD veterans services involve medical and rehabilitation help with health problems. Therefore, there is a positive correlation between video games and mental illness that many veterans commonly face at home.

Good for the brain

Video games are not only remarkable for an immersive virtual reality but a number of positive changes triggered in the player’s brain. In particular, playing video games results in improved attention and a better reaction because the user is required to remain active and engaged throughout the game. Likewise, players develop their visual and motor skills that are determined by the brain responsiveness to triggers appearing on the screen.

However, the major benefit of regular game play is improvements in memory and resistance to aging. Playing video games is a sort of brain exercise that stimulates the right areas of the brain that are responsible for cognitive control and thinking.

What are the best video games for veterans?

It always remains an individual choice. The OSD community does not put limits on a variety of game genres that veterans are allowed to play. It might seem at first that violent shooters or fighting games may have a negative effect on their mental state. Indeed, most of the ex-military find it acceptable and see it no more than a mere game. Virtual battles where you can recover in less than a minute each time you fail to complete your task and real-life war battles have nothing in common. This is why vets do not pay attention to the game’s background and just delve into the adventures it offers.

Some ex-combatants prefer single-player games which let them deal with their self and redevelop the determination and vision of what they aspire to be. They go through dozens of games before discovering the best ones that perfectly fit their needs. Other ex-combatants stick to the best mobile games which occasionally provide even more fascinating scenarios and lead characters.

Why are video games important for veterans?

Despite all the courage and strength they showed at war, many veterans feel mentally vulnerable at home. They need more social support and engagement that can be achieved through video games creating a favorable environment in which vets are able to forget about their war story.

There is a strong link between video games and stress that former combatants tend to experience. Video games improve mental health and for this reason are used to cope with mental issues. They equally enhance a number of important cognitive skills. Playing video games, veterans make progress towards re-adjustment to civilian life and feeling involved with the community.

Health Benefits of Having Scotch Whisky

If you’re a regular but moderate drinker, there’re some surprising health benefits of having Scotch whisky. Why’s that you may wonder. Because the best brands of Scotch whisky are made from finest quality wheat. The distillation process ensures that most nutrients or rare elements vital for a good health remain in the Scotch whisky. And when you consume such whisky, your health benefits too.

However, it’s important to remember that I’m talking about Scotch whisky.

What’s Scotch Whisky

Scotch whisky isn’t just any whisky. It’s whisky that’s distilled in Scotland only. That’s because Scotland has a centuries-old tradition of distilling this potent alcoholic drink. Scotch whisky ranks as the most popular alcoholic drink worldwide after beer.

Under international laws, whisky made in Scotland hold something known as Geographical Indication or GI. This means, only whisky from Scotland qualifies to be known and sold as Scotch whisky.

Whisky made in India isn’t Scotch whisky. Nor does finest Indian whisky blended and matured with imported Scotch whisky qualify for such GI. Therefore, if you want to get these surprising health benefits of having Scotch whisky, you’ll have to consume the authentic stuff that’s made in Scotland only.

The price of authentic scotch whiskey is fairly high usually in the range of Rs 5000 & more for a 1 liter bottle but there are many scotch whiskies that are very expensive.

Surprising Health Benefits of Scotch Whisky

Considering you’re willing to spend some money on enjoying authentic Scotch whisky, here’re something to remember.

You can get these excellent benefits of having Scotch whisky only if you consume the recommended allowance of about 90ml daily or occasionally. If you’re a heavy drinker or consume more than 90ml per day, you won’t get any of these benefits. Instead, you can suffer severe health problems.

Now that you’re aware, let’s talk about some of the surprising benefits of having Scotch whisky.

1. Weight Control & Weight Loss

Scotch whisky contains calories due to its alcohol content. And it has very negligible amounts of fat and carbohydrates due to the excellent distillation processes that Scottish distillers use till today. Consequently, Scotch whisky is non-fattening.

Furthermore, various phytonutrients and anti-oxidants in Scotch whisky speed up your metabolism. They stimulate your body to use up fat deposits while preventing excessive future fat build-up, if you have proper diet with Scotch whisky.

2. Can Help Reduce Hair Fall

High quality Scotch whisky is a proven vasodilator. This means it helps your arteries, veins and capillaries to expand slightly causing blood circulation to improve. You may find your face appears reddish when you consume alcohol. That’s due to vasodilation. However, Scotch whisky promotes excellent and right vasodilation.

As a result, blood supply to your scalp- or the skin on your head- improves for a few hours. This increase helps your hair roots to get proper nutrition and strengthens them. Consequently, consuming moderate volumes of Scotch whisky prevents hair fall.

3. Prevents Cardiac Ailments

This may come as surprise: consuming Scotch whisky actually prevents cardiac ailments. However, I’ll repeat, drinking in moderation is the only way to reap this benefit. Because when you drink fine quality Scotch whisky in moderation, you’re actually preventing blood clots from forming within your circulatory system. And helping lower bad cholesterol levels in the body, especially your blood vessels. Both these factors help in preventing Ischemic heart disease, strokes as well as cardiac arrests. In fact, superior quality Scotch whisky is a known heart tonic since ages.

4. Fights Cancer Causing Toxins

All of us consume cancer causing toxins that are known as carcinogens. Furthermore, certain functions in our bodies also triggers carcinogen buildup that can lead to cancer. Superior quality Scotch whisky contains a rather unknown substance known as Ellagic Acid. And Ellagic Acid is a potent anti-carcinogen.

Fine quality grains that go into making Scotch whisky help release a lot of Ellagic Acid in the final product. And when you consume a superb Scotch whisky, you’re indirectly introducing strong and potent doses of Ellagic Acid into your blood system. This Ellagic Acid neutralizes carcinogens, lowers and prevents their further build up. In turn, this prevents cancer.

5. Anti-Stress Medicine

Again, moderate doses or about 90ml of Scotch whisky daily is known as an excellent stress buster. When you consume a fantastic Scotch whisky in small doses, you’re triggering a chain reaction in the brain. Certain brain hormones and chemicals work to give you that sense of euphoria and relieve stress.

All of us experience various kinds of stress at various levels daily. And Scotch whisky in moderation reduces and eliminates it. As a result, you can enjoy excellent sleep. However, there’s also a flipside to this stress-busting nature of Scotch whisky: some people tend to drink heavily or use stress as an excuse for alcoholism and binge drinking.

In Conclusion

As I’ve shown you, there are at least five surprising health benefits of having Scotch whisky. Additionally, Scotch whisky promotes appetite and can ward off colds and other common ailments as well. However, these benefits are available only when you drink in moderation.
