A rewarding job can come in many shapes and forms. It can be a lucrative profession that makes you feel financially secure, or a position that comes with all kinds of perks and wonderful experiences such as regular travel. However, not all jobs are equally rewarding from that perspective of making a difference. While every career path has its purpose and its ups and downs, not every comes with an incomparable sense of accomplishment when you help others around you.
If you’re actively looking for a job that makes the world a better place in one way or another, there are so many options you can consider. Before you start your noble pursuit, it’s important to prepare yourself and make sure you have the right skills, experience, and knowledge to become a professional in one of many careers intended to help others.
1. Teaching in impoverished regions
No matter the stage of life you’re currently in, chances are that you have some skills and knowledge that people can benefit from. Especially in impoverished, developing countries without access to proper education, this type of work can empower you to help people in need.
Teaching in developing countries means that you will be able to travel, often to remote parts of the world, and provide relevant, life-altering information to children that would otherwise never be able to get education. It’s one of the most effective ways to put your know-how to practical use and make a difference while leading a purposeful life.
2. Consider a branch in therapy
Therapy is a highly-valued branch in the world of psychology, but it also comes with a commitment requiring high-level education on an academic level. If you’re a student and ready to choose your major, this is a great chance to pick the right direction for yourself. If you’re well into your studies or you’re already working, then it might be less plausible to consider this option.
With a degree in psychology, you can consider a few different options where you can help others. For example, you can work in schools with kids, you can set up your own therapy clinic, or you can join an existing business where your services would be helpful. Many modern-day companies now look for on-site psychologists to help prevent work-related burnout, anxiety, depression, and similar issues.
3. Providing respite care
If you’re familiar with the intensity and dedication necessary for being a caregiver, you know that this job can be mentally and physically exhausting, which is why there are respite centers around. This is where NDIS participants can spend their time to recover, while their caregivers can take a break, too.
There’s a growing need for carers respite services, so perhaps this is a calling that allows you to help people and provide the necessary care to those in need. While this type of health service is temporary, it complements the full-time caregiving needs for people with various health issues and disabilities, which means you should make sure you have the necessary qualifications for the job.
4. Positions in fitness
Although you might initially think of Instagram influencers and supplement stores at the mention of the fitness industry, you’d be surprised just how many options you have when it comes to working in this noble sector. Keep in mind, becoming qualified to train and rehabilitate injured people or work with people with disabilities all falls under the work of a fitness trainer. However, there are other ways to build a fulfilling career in this field, too.
- Becoming a nutritionist or a dietitian – you can help people struggling with their health and weight to manage their wellbeing through healthy nutrition.
- Physical therapy – many fitness instructors specialize in a specific area to help people recover from an injury. If you want to invest more time and obtain more education in a specific illness, then you can work in other types of rehabilitation, too.
- Massage therapy – another fitness field where you can work to help people recover and restore their wellbeing after an injury.
5. Becoming an EMT
For most people, working in a medical profession is the utmost expression of care and the ultimate way to make a difference, and rightfully so. However, if you’re already well past your prime and you have obtained education in a different field that can in no way be used for building a medical career, then you can look for a medical field that is rewarding and relatively easy to get into, such as becoming a paramedic.
Training for this position means obtaining an EMT degree, which means devoting around 6 months or more to mastering the latest skills and knowledge in this sphere. Compared to many years necessary for becoming a physician, joining the medical ranks by getting an EMT education is your best option. Of course, you can always upgrade your training with advanced and more complex modules over time, so there’s no need to stagnate in this profession.
Over to you
With a few options laid out, you can start looking into the necessary degrees and other requirements needed if you wish to apply to one of the listed options. Prepare yourself, start as soon as possible, and you’ll kick-start a worthy career that will allow you to help others, make a difference, and lead a rewarding professional life.
